The Sacramento City Council is finalizing plans Tuesday night to build a sports and entertainment complex downtown. It is poised to approve six new billboards and sell up to $325 million in bonds to build the arena, although the city's portion of the $477 million arena will be closer to $255 million. The city will then pay back the loan with money it collects from parking. The plan isn't new, but it's facing increased scrutiny as it heads towards this final hurdle. Sacramento Bee Metro Reporter Ryan Lillis has been covering the city's arena plans since the beginning and joins us for this week's News Network to explain what will be decided Tuesday night.
The Tuolumne County community of Twain Harte may be the first California municipality to run out of water because of drought. Just above Sonora, nestled in tall pines that line the foothills of the Sierra Nevada, Twain Harte is a summer tourist destination, making its mandatory 50 percent water reduction measures harder to enforce. Joining us to explain how water restrictions are changing daily life in the idyllic foothill community are some of the people most affected by the drought measures.

Modesto author Ken White published earlier this year his young adult novel "Getaway Day" - a book about baseball, growing up, and confronting the challenges of when a parent falls ill with cancer. The book is set in 1962 as the young fan of the San Francisco Giants gets to witness his team practice for the World Series in Modesto. White will be signing books at a Modesto Nuts game Saturday, May 24 and reading from his book at the North Modesto Kiwanis Club Thursday, May 29.
There was Hot August Mikes and then Miketoberfest. Now there's Memorial Mike Day. No, it's not a remembrance of someone named Mike, it's a bad pun designed to excite you about a comedy show this holiday weekend featuring "The Mikes." Mike O'Connell, Mike Betancourt, Micheal Calvin Jr. and Mike Sinclair are all stand-up comedians making humorous use of their shared forename as they tour Sacramento region stages. This Friday, they're hoping to sell out the 500-seat Roseville Theatre Arts Academy with their Memorial Mike Day show. All four Mikes are joining us to talk about the show, and maybe toss out a few more puns.
